This is your first official update from the Antarctica Expedition.
After a very long travel day yesterday, we made it to Punta Arenas (on time) at 6:30 pm local time last night. The sun was still shining (as it was until 10:30 pm) – but we were relieved to finally be here! Our connection in Santiago was a quick one, but we were thankful to be escorted through the airport by very efficient Air Canada staff on the ground.
When we got to Punta Arenas, we checked into the Dreams Hotel and set off to explore the city and get dinner.
Today, we will meet with the Mountain Professionals guides at 9:00 am to do gear checks, practice setting up the tents the team will use in Antarctica, and also have some free time to purchase snacks and last minute gear required for the expedition. Tonight, we will gather for our first official group meal at the restaurant at the Dreams Hotel.
The weather today in Punta Arenas is sun/cloud with a high of 13 degrees Celsius. Remember, we are 2 hours ahead of Toronto time – its currently 8:50 am.
